Join us with your school or group in the heart of the South African bushveld for a 5-day wilderness experience, and learn about nature and the environment through a variety of enjoyable and educational activities.
These experiences are tailored to suit students between the ages of 10 – 17yrs, and incorporate aspects of the school curriculum in the fields of natural science, geography and life skills. Students will be introduced to concepts such as environmental awareness, conservation and social responsibility, and equipped with information to support responsible living and promote a healthy environment at home.
Participants joining the course enjoy comfortable, safe accommodation in our fenced camp facility, which is based in South Africa’s iconic Kruger Area, just 5 hours outside of central Johannesburg. Here, we can accommodate groups of all sizes (From 25 to 300) in en-suite bungalows. Educators and guardians are accommodated in comfortably furnished chalets.
Spacious lapas provide perfect locations for shared meals, lectures and activities. Sprawling lawns, volleyball courts, indigenous riverine forests and safe, natural swimming pools in the Lower Blyde River offer a multitude of activities and recreation under the supervision of our expertly-trained staff and guides.
The curriculum for this course has been carefully designed, and by facilitating both a physical and tacit journey for students, it delivers a number of outcomes.
The Practical Journey
Participants learn about the fauna and flora of the lowveld and its interconnectedness. They explore the need for and role of conservation, and how nature reserves and eco-tourism are contributing to preserving our natural heritage. The course is linked to the South African school curriculum, focusing on natural science, geography and life skills, and is accompanied by a workbook which consolidates what they learn and makes the information relevant for when they return home. The range of interactive and interpretive activities help learners to create strong linkages to the theory they learn in the classroom, and build confidence in their abilities.
The Tacit Journey
The benefits of breaking away from technology and spending time outdoors are well-documented. Student experience wilderness, learn about conservation and develop practical skills with a clear mind, giving the impact of their experiences longevity. Learners are able to explore their compassion and priorities, understanding what is important to them, and becoming more conscious of others. Experiential and reflective learning opportunities play a significant role.
You will find our camp at the foot of the Northern Drakensberg, next to the Lower Blyde River, close to a little town called Hoedspruit. We’re close to the Kruger National Park’s Orpen Gate and the Blyde river canyon. So basically we’re surrounded by some of the most beautiful landscapes in our country. The camp is set on a 14 hectare fenced property with indigenous forests. You’ll find all sorts of little wild animals in and around our camp.
